Did you know that you may NOT be allergic to Cherry Blossom trees?

The trees get a bad rap for causing spring time allergy symptoms for sufferers in the DMV area because their beautiful blossoms are visually remarkable and memorable with the start of spring. But they are flowering trees and pollinate via insects with large pollen and don’t generally spread their pollen too far. In fact we don’t even test for cherry blossom or other flowering trees. This doesn’t mean that you wouldn’t sneeze if you got really close and inhaled the large pollen, but the pollen that you are more likely responding to comes from miles around you. Typically these are trees with small pollen and are wind pollinators like birch, elm, hickory, maple, sycamore and so on.
